A solid ruckman who arrived at Melbourne from Leopold in 1902, Syd Anderson overcame the setback of a dislocated shoulder, sustained in a pre-season practice match, to become a handy player for the Reds. From 1902 until 1907 he played a total of 53 VFL games and kicked 10 goals.
